Our Story
Since its launch in 2020, Learn Auslan Online have received enrolments from a wide array of people including: emergency services staff, hospital staff, primary school teachers, childcare educators, university students, families with deaf children, workplaces with deaf colleagues, and individuals wanting to learn Auslan for fun and to learn a new skill.
We have grown from a single beginner course to now having several unique courses (with more to come) that cover signing for children at home and at school; to adults looking to learn a new skill whether that be for work, their community, or personal interest.
Your main tutor, Darren has been teaching Auslan for over 20 years through in-person workplace and community courses. Prior to COVID he was the Auslan LOTE teacher for three primary schools teaching Auslan to over 1000 Foundation to Grade 6 students each week. Based on his experience in teaching Auslan, he established Learn Auslan Online during COVID to create an accessible online course for people at home wanting to learn Auslan.
Darren's passion is teaching Auslan and outside of that he loves playing tennis (4 times a week), having friends over for dinner, playing board and card games with friends and family, reading by the fireside with a good wine, walking his dog Shadow and going to the races all over Australia to watch his four racehorses win races.
