Question signs

In Auslan, the question signs are usually signed at the end of a question - your name WHAT?

In English, the question word is usually said first - WHAT is your name?

Where possible, always put the question sign at the end of your question and use your non manual features (NMF) such as raised eyebrows, open eyes, forward body movement to demonstrate to the Deaf person that you are asking them a question.

The biggest area of confusion between a Deaf Auslan user and a hearing person signing in Auslan is that the hearing person does not use the appropriate NMF to accompany their question or statement or comment, leaving the Deaf person confused.

How? Because many statement/comments can be questions and many questions can be interpreted as a statement/comment based solely on the NMF and body language.
