WHY LEARN AUSLAN?

Learning to communicate in Auslan is a fantastic way to make Deaf, hard of hearing and non verbal visitors feel welcome when they visit the Mount Barker District Council area.

ABOUT THE COURSE

This course is designed for you to learn Auslan quickly and easily with each subject video no more than one minute each.

The course is divided into two parts.

First, are three grammar modules that give you a brief overview of how to use Auslan correctly in a grammatical way (I promise you it is bite size and not boring!)

Secondly, there are modules 1 to 8 which contain the teaching videos for each subject within the module. In each subject (family signs, for example) are three videos;

Video 1 - has 10 to 15 subject signs to learn

Video 2 - has 5 sentences to practice

Video 3 - has 10 signs from video 1 and video 2 for you to practice your receptive skills (no voice used by me in this video)

EACH VIDEO IS NOT MORE THAN ONE MINUTE IN DURATION

AUSLAN MORNING TEA

As you begin to learn Auslan it is great to put it into practice amongst the staff learning. If you can occassionally, maybe once a week, have a Auslan morning tea at work or go out to a cafe for lunch or the pub for dinner and practice signing to each other WITHOUT VOICE!!

This will enable each staff member to practice their signs, practice fingerspelling and develop their receptive skills through watching someone sign and watching someone fingerspell.

Improvement of signing, receptive skills development and retention of the signs only comes through constant practice; even just 5 minutes a day is fantastic.
